Live Gig Review: Young Franco & Scrufizzer

Words and Content by Rachel June

Young Franco, a charismatic and curly-haired Australian DJ/producer, was recently galavanting across Europe for his dazzling ‘Daydreaming’ tour. Sporting orange-tinted glasses and a mullet, he poured tonnes of energy into the crowd as they sang, jumped, and bounced along with him. Accompanied by a disco ball and an infectious smile, Franco brought vivacious vibes across the magical cities of London, Amsterdam, Geneva, Stockholm, Paris, and Copenhagen.

Joined by friend and lyricist and Scrufizzer – who features in ‘About This Thing‘, among other catchy tracks, the pair performed together at the iconic Jazz Café in London, on February 1st 2024. The audience danced around to Scrufizzer’s ever-so-effortless flow and Franco’s nostalgic, funky and bass-heavy tracks. It’s the type of music that lands you at a beach party as you sip a piña colada, swaying into the sunset of a never-ending night.

Young Franco started DJing in clubs whilst studying at University, but his passion came to life when he began producing his own music. Shaped by Hip-Hop producers like DJ Premier, Q-Tip, and Timbaland, he was inspired and started to master his style, progressing into dance music (think Daft Punk meets Jamiroquai). ‘Little L’ by Jamiroquai holds the no.1 spot for Franco’s favourite song of all time, mirrored in his epic and fun sets featuring 90’s dance, old school disco, and UK Garage. Franco says “I think I sit somewhere in the middle of all those things”.

Working with other musicians comes naturally to him, as it stems from a “love of the person’s music.” His collaborations include a variety of artists and genres featuring Franc Moody, Theophilus London, Jafunk, Pell, Maribelle, Jay Prince, S1mba, and many more. He adds, “It’s the most natural and organic way and brings in the best results”. Each track comes with creative music videos, featured on his YouTube channel. They each hold a special place in his heart and are a “timestamp of where I was at in my life.” Franco continues, “I love getting excited about new tracks and the friends I’ve met along the way”.

Whether you experience him live or through your speakers, Young Franco will elevate your summer days and brighten the gloomier ones. He provides mood-lifting, feel-good, and dance-worthy tunes. Young Franco is one to watch, so expect more funky fresh music for 2024 and more.
