Introducing: Half Lung

Whose single Freedom From The Bliss is released 1st of September

Half lung are a Brighton based,4 piece alternative rock band made up of Harry, Eliot, Matt and Kait, starting out as a lockdown project by signer/guitarist Harry Taylor under the alias “coffee please” releasing a 5 track demo EP onto streaming platforms. Since then they have played the likes of Camden Assembly, 93 Feet East and Isle Of Wight Competition at Hoxton Underbelly.  Give Me 5 words that would describe Half Lung ? Loud, Honest, Energetic, Emotive, Communal   How did you first meet? The current band line up was formed in Brighton. Harry met Kait at a gig within days of having moved to Brighton, Eliot was hanging around the bins and Matt was met at our favourite Brighton venue Green Door Store.  Where does the name come from ? The name half lung comes from singer Harry Taylor having 1 and 1/2 lungs. Back in 2019 his lung collapsed and the procedure that worked was removing parts of his lung. The name was right in front of us all this time. How would you describe your sound? Bands such as Sam Fender, Frank Turner ,Biffy Clyro, Frightened Rabbit and The Vaccines are a huge influence to half lungs sound and continue to inspire them as well as many other. Tell me about the new single Freedom from The Bliss? Freedom From The Bliss follows the narrative of ending a relationship or friendship that neither members wish to end but overall it is the best choice. The back and forth of making a hard decision that is going to make a long term change was something that songs never seemed to include. The song was written in 2019 for another band but since then has just been hidden away and now felt like the best time for the story to be told
