OUT TODAY
Independent artist Daniel Mist released a new song from my upcoming EP. Landslide out today Landslide defines its own musical genre, blending the warmth of a Rhodes with the cold tones of an electronic beat. The track draws on the codes of English songwriting, hip-hop/RnB, and electronica, without ever truly fitting into any of these categories. Skilfully oscillating between hope and despair, the song immerses us in the romantic and nostalgic daydreams of a character distanced from his muse.

1. Who is ‘Daniel Mist’?
I’m a singer-songwriter and producer from Paris.
2. For someone who has yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?
I’d say it’s inspired by singer-songwriters who like to experiment with sounds and blur the boundaries between genres—artists like Frank Ocean, James Blake, Thom Yorke, and King Krule.
3. What inspires you as an artist?
Everything happening around me and inside me. Introspection is a major source of inspiration—I probably use music as a way to better understand myself. Cinema is another big passion of mine and definitely influences my work. I’m a big fan of Tarantino, Wong Kar-wai, David Lynch,.. But in the end, you don’t really choose what inspires you—just like you don’t choose what you dream about.
4. What is your pre-show routine? Do you have any diva demands?
Definitely some vocal warm-ups. I also try to calm down and stay present by focusing on my breath and stretching.
5. Where do you feel you fit into the music landscape?
I don’t really think about that. I just try to work on whatever feels interesting and exciting to me.
6. What are your favorite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?
I’m very open when it comes to genres. I just look for artists with a unique and authentic identity. I’m a big fan of The Beatles, Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock, and Aphex Twin. Each of them has a distinct sonic identity.
7. Is there a story behind your new single?
The new single, Landslide, is about a character who experiences nostalgic, romantic daydreams and fantasies about someone he met before. But we’re never quite sure what’s real and what’s imagined.
8. What would you say is your greatest strength as an artist?
That’s a tough one. Probably trusting my taste and having a clear vision.
9. What would you say is your greatest weakness as an artist?
Working too much on my own.
10. What can fans expect from your new single Landslide?
A sense of duality, between fantasy and reality, memory and imagination.

11. What music artists would you say have influenced your work?
All the ones I mentioned earlier.
12. Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?
Lately, I’ve been really into the work of director Frank Lebon. It would be amazing to collaborate with him on some video projects.
13. What was your worst performance?
Probably my first one.
14. What has been the most difficult obstacle you’ve faced, and how did you overcome it?
For me, the hardest times as an artist, are when I’m not excited about making music. Even though it’s my passion, doing this every day can sometimes make it less fun. So it’s important to keep experimenting, learning, and finding new ways to make the process feel fresh and fun.

15. What is your creative process when making music? Do you work with others or on your own?
I write and record everything by myself at home, but I hope to collaborate more in the future.
16. Where do you see your musical career in 10 years?
I don’t really make long-term plans. What matters to me is being excited about what I’m doing right now, and I can’t predict what will be fun for me in 10 years, so I just follow my curiosity and see where it leads.
