Rachel Kerr brings raw, honest and soulful R&B vibes to London's O2 Academy Islington

Just 2 weeks after speaking to ASBO Meets interviewee Rachel Kerr, ASBO was invited down to her headline show at the O2 Academy in Islington where we were able to witness Rachel give a soulful, honest, raw and honest performance to her fans that came out to watch her.

Rachel who describes herself as fusion of soul and R&B with an inspirational message is a MOBO Award winning British singer and songwriter, she has previously released a number of EPs as well as a mixtape Unboxes which she released in 2016 and is gearing up to release her debut album which we can expect this year.

Taking the stage with her band which was consisted of 2 guitars, a drummers, 2 backup singers  a 3 piece horn section and 2 incredible dancers Rachel took the stage. When asked in her interview about what audiences could expect from her O2 performance ahead of the show she said " It’s going to be exceptional. Everything about my performance in terms of the band, the lighting, the stage presence...Over the years things have changed and audiences don’t just want artists that sing a few songs and leave they want the want the real production entertainment and everything from the artist that is going to take them on a journey. And that is absolutely what you can expect from set, from the performance from vocal and real production that shows that there is excellence in the UK and there is excellence in the genre"

This promise was one that did not go unfulfilled from the moment Rachel took the stage she brought a real energy to her matched with a variety of different musical styles including her Caribbean vibes that went to her roots, going to her power anthem tunes, as well as having a moment with more vulnerable songs that really fed into the crowds spirit.

The setlist itself really showcase Rachel's incredible talent with a range of different tracks Rachel played including some fan favourites as well as previewing some new material that is to come on the album. Some of songs she treated her fans to included a range from all her previously released material including songs like His Love, Solider, Nothing Without You,  as well as some new tracks I Do, Lover Lover and Better Things Are coming.

In between most songs Rachel took the time to talk with her fans sharing personal stories of her journey and personal stories about her songs as well as inspirational words about chasing after your dreams. This mixed with the songs themselves really gave the room and crowd a strong energy and you really felt the words of the songs and the emotion as she performed them.

Overall Rachel's show was really something that was really raw and honest spoke a lot of truth. Seeking out to do exactly what she intended it was really a performance of excellence and really showed herself as an artist as somebody who is really passionate for the work that she does and the music she makes and really makes sure that she is serving her purpose through her talents not forgetting where it comes from and making sure that everything she does and every song she makes has a message and really speaks to people which it did. As somebody who experienced Rachel live for the first time I left the show feeling really happy and positive about the talent I had just witnessed.

As she said yesterday the album is coming soon and that is something that after last night I am very much looking forward to hearing. You can check Rachel out on Spotify here and also follow her on Instagram and all things social media @rachelkerrmusic. As for us at ASBO we will be looking forward to everything thats coming for Rachel.
