ASBO Hangs with 'Artist To Watch' Poppy Ajudha
Yesterday ASBO was invited down to check out the headline show of an up and coming artist that if you do not know about then you should definitely get to know. The name of the artist in question is none other than Poppy Ajudha. The songstress of South East London has a voice to die for with, her music which quiet simple is a blend of her soulful jazz/neo soul vibes and blues with funk beat.
We first came across Poppy as an artist to look out when we caught her performance of her tack Love Falls on the famed and immediately wanted to know more. Since then she has gone on to release singles as well as her debut EP Femme which came down last year.
We were more than excited to not only capture her headlining show at London's Omeara but also hang out with Poppy before the show from when she soundchecked, to a shoot she was doing before the show and observe her in her habibitat.
Before taking the stage at Omeara Poppy was getting into the zone of things hanging out backstage with her band and getting ready with her backing singers. Poppy is the artist who has become a name of the scene after having just released her debut EP Femme at the beginning of this year. Prior to this she had a string of singles she put out last year includingTepid Soul, Spilling Into You featuring spoken word artist Kojey Radical and her most well known track Love Falls Down.
Alongside all this Poppy has had appearances in the likes of Gal-Dem, Wonderland, Clash and other publications all listing her as one to watch and if that doesn’t get you to pay attention I don’t know what what will.
After the afternoon past and the preparations were complete 9:30 came and Poppy took to the stage. The crowd was treated to the Jazzy Neo-soul vibes of Poppy along with her her 6 piece band.
The vibes of the rooms were buzzing, chilled and all out relaxing as Poppy gave a 10 track before of the songs that everybody was just loving. As well performing her fan favourites she debuted couple of new songs When U Watch Me (which we can safely say is our new favourite and also White Water.
All in all the show was great and Poppy showed off her excellent vocal abilities, she was able to capture the emotion speaking of the songs and what they mean to her and execute that as she performed to the crowd.
We were more than happy to be on hand and witness Poppy doing her thing, having just played at the Brighton Great Escape Festival she is clearly not going to be slowing down anytime soon.
With a voice filled will pure and raw talent we are looking forward to seeing what she continues to do and catch her wherever she plays next.
