Cruel Youth

Singer-songwriter Teddy Sinclair has quite the musical history behind her. Originally bursting on the scene as Verbalicious, then featured on M. Pokora's They Talk Shit About Me as Verse in 2008 before truly beginning her career as Natalia Kills in 2010, releasing two albums under the name. Fast forward to 2015 and Natalia became Teddy Sinclair. Through Teddy Sinclair, she has released songs through a number of projects including Cruel Youth and The Powder Room.

Cruel Youth, a three-piece band, which Sinclair fronts, is a bit of a step back from the commercial radio-friendly pop that fans are probably used to hearing from the artist as Natalia. But while the hooks are still present throughout, the singer-songwriter comes through unfiltered. There's something about the +30mg EP that is slightly uplifting among themes which are normally kept to slow-tempo songs, should they ever see the light of day. Through Cruel Youth, Teddy Sinclair is also filling out her fantasy of creating a record that was sonically inspired by The End of the World by Skeeter Davis (Sinclair mentioned in a live interview with fans while promoting second album Trouble that this was one of her favorite songs).

The recently released, I Want It Now is the first taste fans have received from Sinclair's second project, The Powder Room. Through The Powder Room, Sinclair is able to experiment with a harder sound although keeping her pop roots present throughout. None of this to say that Teddy has left her electronic roots behind her; just last week EDM producer, IZII released the video for his joint single with The Power Room, Birds

Through all the name changes and change of direction, Teddy's voice has always remained consistent. Her lyrics are filled with themes of tragedy and loss but romanticized and through Teddy Sinclair it seems the singer-songwriter has come full circle and found what works for her. She's even had writing credits on Madonna's Holy Water and Rihanna's Grammy nominated Kiss It Better. Her inspiration for creating music has never been more clear than when she unleashed Teddy Sinclair to the world.
