Death of Emo-Trap Pioneer, Lil Peep

On Wednesday 15th November, the world lost one of its upcoming mould breakers, Gustav Ahr, also known as the ‘emo trap’ rapper, Lil Peep. The 21-year-old, who was known for his SoundCloud success from his distinctive style of rap, was found unresponsive following an overdose on tour in Arizona.

The heartfelt responses to the rapper’s death from friends, collaborators, and fans has been posted all over social media. It seems Lil Peep was extremely popular amongst his peers, with so many artists and friends talking about ‘Gus’ as a kind-hearted guy and a good friend who was always there for you.

Amongst the artists closest to Lil Peep, Awful Records rapper, Slug Christ, who had known Lil Peep from when they first met couch surfing in LA, emotionally captioned an image on Instagram of the two of them, writing, “your loyalty never wavered to those you came up with. you singlehandedly gave careers to so many artists and allowed them to live their dreams.”. So many who paid their respects, including ILoveMackonnen, Post Malone and Diplo, talked about how he was an inspiration to so many.

Not only was he a talented rapper, but also a gifted instrumentalist and had always had an eye for fashion. Lil Peep, although only releasing the one album ‘Come Over When You’re Sober’, has left a lasting impression not only on rap music but on many creative fields and the fans and artists he inspired along the way.
