ASBO Live: Tommy Genesis

Very rarely have I left a show with no voice. Yet that was the case when I left the Tommy Genesis show which took place at the Oslo in Hackney. Bringing all the vibes and all the energy it was a show not to miss.

When we first came across Tommy Genesis after she released her first Mixtape World Vision in 2015 we knew that she was one to keep an eye out for and we very much had her on our radar. Fast forward to 2018 when Tommy released her first self titled major studio album and once again we were reminded of the wonder that is Tommy Genesis.

Supporting her album and embarking on her God is Wild Tour Tommy is taking to the stage across Europe as well as the USA, and whilst in London she played a sold out show at the Oslo in Hackney.

The show was something that was just like nothing I have experienced before. With a sold out crowd who gathered in The Oslo Tommy really brought the energy and vibes to the room 1000%. Apart from a killer setlist which saw her perform songs from both her album and mixtape Tommy was also truly one with the crowd. Not afraid to really connect with her fans engaging with them as there was literally no barriers. Tommy left everybody (myself included) feeling like they shared a moment with her as she performed.

From the moment Tommy took the stage there was not a moment where the energy and vibes in the room dropped. With very little going with besides her and her DJ on stage she was able to carry out her hour long show which made you feel as if she had only been on stage for 15 minutes.

As an artist Tommy is one who openly raps and sings about Gender and sexuality and has always been able to express herself in a way that most artists and people don’t which has, therefore allowed her to have a different kind of connection with her fans and audience. All of which was in full effect last and is also clear with how she interacts with on stage.

One contribution of the whole vibe and energy of the show was of course the setlist which the crowd seemed to know every single word of. Opening the show with her song Rainbow from her album the set went from there and included the songs 100 Bad, Bad Boys, Tommy, Play With It, as well as my favourites Drive and Miami, Tommy also took the crowd back to her first mixtape performing the songs Angeline and Execute as well as her latest single I’m Yours released just last week.

Overall the show left me feeling so filled with energy. It was refreshing to see Tommy really vibes with her crowd and really connect with her fans. As she continues her tour all I can say is that her fans are in for a treat. Until she is back in the UK we (everybody who has at the show) will be holding on to the feels from last night and reminding ourselves that Tommy is queen.
