Yxng Bane premiers his short film HBK The Prequel

Last night we were amongst that crowd that gathered for a surprise event from UK Singer/Rapper Yxng Bane for what was the screening of his short film HBK the Prequel. The film which was the acting debut for the young rapper tells the story of a day in the life of a group of 5 young men in London and also features Samuel Kyi, Senesie "Essk Songz" Koroma, Gerome Miller, Malachi Latchman and Emma Cargill.

The story itself is very simple in the actual events throughout the film as the film opens with a scene of a car accidents and the events of the day leading up to that incident. The story follows Bane’s character and 4 of his friends as they go about their day. Laced with events throughout the day which include them hanging out playing football, smoking week, rapping in a card an arrest and eventually the accident.

Laced within the story as well is new music from the rapper, alot of which is has previously been unheard and hints at new releases there is an array a new music that feed into the story.

Speaking on what the film was about and the concept of it, director Esrael Alem said “The whole concept of the film was it keep it as simple and share the everyday life of a teenagers and to be real with it. We wanted to give the people something relatable and show how there is a lot of misinterpretation of our community and so this was just showing us being as real as we are in our environment.”

The film itself was a project that showed the versatilely of Yxng Bane who as previously mentioned was making his acting debut. In a time where artists are multidimensional this may lend itsself well to Bane and could also mean that more short films are in the works. Certainly as the title suggests The Prequel means they could potentially be more films in the works.

We would love to see how the story continues and also get our hands on more of the music. Set to play his headline show in London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town next week it’ll be interesting to see if and how he incorporates the film into his show.
