Oslo Runway Highlights 2017
OSLO RUNWAY was established in 2015, and has since received masses of attention from international press around the world. It´s a brand new Norwegian fashion arena, where brands and upcoming designers showcase their collections to press, buyers and influencers. Every February and August, OSLO RUNWAY hosts Norway’s largest fashion event in Oslo...
Oslo Runway was officially opened on Tuesday – first was byTimo, and then Moods of Norway, Fam Irvoll, and Tom Wood. The latter two, had some remarkable collections and were by far, the highlights of the first day.
Fam Irvoll graduated from Central St. Martins in London, and launched her own brand during her time there. Irvoll's collections are famous for incredible prints that are full of colour, humour and this year, a clear message against unhealthy beauty ideals.
Fam focused her entire collection on the unhealthy beauty ideals of plastic surgery, pulling the middle finger up for unhealthy body images. With a great diversity of models in all kind of shapes and ages, the show was filled with glitter, shades of pink and loud rave music.
Tom Wood is a relatively new brand, that was launched by Mona Jensen in 2013. This season, it was one of the most stunning shows from Oslo Runway. The collection was showcased at SALT, right by the Oslo fjord in a beautiful sunset. With a “workwear” vibe, focusing completely on denim and overalls, the collection was strong and timeless. The jewellery was the finishing touch that made the collection remarkable.
Hamza Mayow launched his brand only two years ago, and aims to offer clothes for both casual and formal occasions. The high-end ready-to-wear menswear brand, focused on clean lines and this season, the collection was inspired by the typical Japanese man.
Before the show started the audience was presented with three all grey stand-out showpieces— the highlights of the collection. With a custom made track playing along in the background, the vibe for the evening was nothing but outstanding.
With a bachelor degree from London College of Fashion, and a bag full of prestigious awards, Edda was one of the standouts at Oslo Runway. She was nominated for the Bik Bok Runway Awards, along with four other brands. After recently winning the Merit Award at Fashion Scout in London, the audience was eager and enthusiastic when the name Edda Gimnes appeared on the big screen. Her collection was filled with pieces that combined handmade prints, fur and big flowing capes.
Olestad may have only recently finished a Diploma in Art and Design from London College of Fashion, and a bachelor degree in Fashion from Middlesex University, but he has worked hard for his Bik Bok Runway Award. Olestad got 100.000 NOK earmarked for production of a new collection, and a full show at next seasons Oslo Runway home.
His collection makes use of a diverse use of materials, all from organza, fake leather and cotton. The use of different colours and accessories created a successful collection. Now, the next step for Michael is Paris, where he will be showcasing his collection in a showroom. We wish him all the best of luck and cannot wait to see the next collection!
