MIA’s New Venture with Astrid Andersen
Combining athleticism and streetwear with simplicity and meaning, MIA x Astrid Andersen is the hot new merchandise collaboration.
After her 2016 album AIM, it seems Maya Arulpragasam took it into her own hands to team up and create her very own sustainable merchandise, with none other than young Danish designer Astrid Andersen. Back last November, the rapper tweeted, “Can't even being myself to make merch - destroying environment and enslaving peeps can I just give u a vector and you print on ur T/hoodie”.
So, we know that her own merch has been on the cards for some time, and after ten months, she’s created something amazing that not only is environment friendly and affordable, but has showcased the work of 31-year-old Astrid, who is becoming ever more popular. The collection consists of a black and orange colour theme, which applies to the tees, anoraks and trousers. The star-piece of the collection is the black anorak with the orange logo on the black, which is made from 100% recycled plastic; it reads, “uniting people since 2003”. This refers to the partnership with Parley for the Oceans, an organisation that raises awareness of the abundance of plastic in our oceans.
If you fancy grabbing yourself some MIA x Astrid Andersen merch, all pieces are available to buy at Astrid Andersen’s flagship store in Copenhagen, and on MIA’s website OHMNI, where prices range from £50 to £120.
