MEET: King Flood

NEW SINGLE: “BREAK TO BLUE” OUT NOW

King Flood is a Scottish singer, songwriter and producer with a story that hits as hard as his songs. Hailing from central Scotland, he first made waves in the local scene over two decades ago playing in bands – until a crisis of confidence silenced his voice.

Who is ‘KING FLOOD’

King Flood is what happens when you mix heartbreak, late-night soul-searching, a tonne of whisky, and a lifetime of dodgy decisions into an emotional outburst. I’m a songwriter, producer, and sonic troublemaker from central Scotland. Think grit meets melody – the guy who disappeared for years then came back louder, wiser, less fat, and
with better hair.

For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?

It’s like if Chris Stapleton & The Doors got lost in a Glasgow back alley, found a beat-up guitar, and started singing blues over indie rock with a bit of reverb and regret. Soulful, rough around the edges, and made for people who’ve felt a bit broken but keep going anyway.

What inspires you as a artiest?

Life when it’s not behaving. The quiet moments after chaos. Old records that sound like they were recorded in a smoky basement. People who’ve lost it all and still manage to laugh. And that magic moment when the right lyric lands and everything just clicks.

    What Is Yor Pre-Show Routine?

Its been a while since I last gigged, but if I remember, it was a fair amount of drinking, and even more of hoping for the best.

Where do you feel you fit into the music landscape?

Somewhere between the outlaws and the underdogs. I’m not here to be polished pop – I’m here for the never made its that never gave up. Maybe I’m the guy keeping one boot in the blues and the other stomping through the indie and rock that brought me up.

What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?

Blues, soul, rock, funk, a bit of outlaw country, hip hop, jazz and anything that sounds like it’s been through something, or has a story to tell. My whole family are musicians so I was brought up with everything imaginable, even classical, a good tune is a good tune, there’s not much I don’t like, but there’s some if love

Is there a story behind you’re the new single ‘ BREAK TO BLUE ‘ ?

Absolutely. It’s about clawing your way out of a mess and seeing daylight again – literally breaking to blue. I wrote it at a time when everything felt heavy, life kicked the hell out of me in 2024 but the hard times helped me rediscover songwriting again, which was a guiding light. That moment when the storm starts to pass, and you realise, “I’ve survived worse.” Break to Blue is that hope.

What would you say is your greatest strength as an artist is ?

Honesty. I don’t pretend to be anything I’m not – what you hear is what I’ve lived. That, and I can write a hook that’ll haunt you for days.

What would you say is your greatest weakness an artist?

Perfectionism. I’ve binned entire tracks because the vibe didn’t feel right. It’s a blessing and a curse. Also, I might overuse reverb. But that’s due to the fact i’ve only recently formed a relationship with singing and mentally I’m maybe just not there yet.

What can fans expect from your new single ‘ BREAK TO BLUE ‘

Emotion, atmosphere, both heartbreak and happiness. It’s a slow burn with a spark – part melancholy, part redemption. Best listened to with headphones and a whisky in hand.

What music artist would you say have influenced your work?

I don’t even know where to begin here, there’s too many, but probably The Doors, Robert Johnson, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Howlin Wolf, Stone Roses, Pink Floyd, Noel Gallagher to name a few

Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?

Right now it would have to be either Chris Stapleton or Post Malone, I can’t get enough of them. Absolutely incredible artists.

            What was your worst performance?

I remember one time in my old band, years ago, we played a 5pm gig in a pub while the football was on, I think the entire crowd were facing the other way watching the game. It was in Aberdeen so it took us a good 2 to 3 hours to drive there, and we were back on the road home about an hour later, yeah, that sucked.

What was the most difficult obstacle you have ever faced and how did you overcome it?

Walking away from music years ago because I thought I wasn’t good enough – then having the guts to come back. It took hitting a few personal lows, but songwriting pulled me back. It saved me. Now I’m making up for lost time.

What is your creative process when making music?

I struggle when I sit down to try write something, but then randomly a thought for a song will pop into my head and I get straight to putting it together. I try to produce it ASAP, then once I have a basic structure i’ll work on the lyrics. I trust my gut a lot. If it doesn’t feel real, I scrap it.

what are your top ten desert Island tracks ?

Now this wasn’t easy, but this is what I narrowed it down to…

              1. The Doors – The End
              2. John Lennon – Woman
              3. Wu-Tang Clan – Triumph
              4. Oasis – Live Forever
              5. Howlin Wolf – Smokestack Lightnin’
              6. Nas – Halftime
              7. Chris Stapleton – South Dakota
              8. Creedence Clearwater Revival – Born On The Bayou
