VIDEODROME: CHASE THA WORST

Words by Jared Harris

Chase Tha Worst evolves with new single Tiefs. Featuring Yorke, Tara Salerno & dan PARTIES

“Please don’t take my style it took me so long to figure it out”

“It’s about protecting your style,” says Chase. “Once you find your voice, you don’t want anyone stealing it. That’s where Tiefs—which means ‘thieves’ in Trinidadian slang—came from.”

After spending the past 4 years crafting his own unique sound, Chase has emerged with a musical arsenal packed with pounding basslines, heavy hitting drum samples, and playful synth flourishes. Chase’s latest single Tiefs sits comfortably within the space between raw hiphop energy and danceable, commercially sharp production.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago and now based in London, Chase first emerged as a filmmaker frustrated with the creative limits of the UK hip-hop scene. After two years in film school, Chase decided he wanted to make the music himself. What followed was years of obsessive beatmaking, songwriting, and worldbuilding as part of the collective Cosmic Arcade, before branching into his solo identity with Tha Worst Mixtape.

“This was one of the first tracks I made after wrapping my mixtape,” Chase explains. “I was experimenting more—going to parties, listening to dance music, getting out of that rigid hip-hop mindset. This track marks a real shift in my sound.”

Tiefs also reflects Chase’s tight-knit creative ecosystem. Dan PARTIES, his longtime friend and Cosmic Arcade alum, brings a fiery verse over a Brazilian funk-inspired switch-up. Yorke delivers smooth, poignant vocals that ground the track’s high-octane feel. Tara Salerno, a Berlin-based vocalist, adds an atmospheric and melodic layer that cuts through the noise. Each collaborator was chosen not for clout, but connection.

“I don’t make music with people just because it’s a ‘smart move’,” says Chase. “It has to feel real. These are my people.”

Visually, Tiefs bursts off the screen. Co-directed by Chase’s longtime creative partner Ling Yu and newcomer Charlie Jefferies, the video plays out like a surrealist fever dream.  Free from label interference, Chase has built this world entirely on his own terms.

A forthcoming visual album is on the horizon, but for now, Tiefs stands alone as a defiant, danceable statement of intent from one of the UK’s most exciting underground artists. Watch below:
