Water Machine are an art-punk collective from Glasgow. Their light-hearted and refreshing sound combines insightful and witty lyrics alongside nostalgic and bouncy beats. They recently played at the Great Escape and are excited to shower their music worldwide. An un-serious but mighty powerhouse in the Glasgow scene, their energetic and fun music is both infectious and leaves you wanting to know more…
1. …So, who are Water Machine?
Water Machine are Hando on Vocals, violin, and synth, Flore on bass, Nicky on drums, and Ellie and Baby on respective guitars.
2.For someone that is yet to discover you, how would you describe your music?
Our music is poppy, punky, but definitely not pop punk. We have edgy guitars, sexy harmonies, cute riffs and plenty of cowbells.
3.What inspired you?
As artists we are inspired by the mundane lives we are living, as well as the musical greats who came before us in beautiful and lush Glasgow.
4.What Is Your Pre-Show Routine?
Our pre show routine is unhinged, probably too intimate to share, but it works for us and involves standing in a circle and connecting our souls through a medium we cannot disclose. Seeing is believing. And some vocal warmups.

5.Where do you feel you fit into the music landscape?
We very much fit into the Glasgow music scene, even though we all have extremely eclectic music taste. We love a jangly guitar, but won’t shy away from some hiphop, you name it. We fit wherever we land.
6.What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?
We detest pop punk, but are otherwise open to anything! from hip hop to hardcore feminist punk, funk, folk, country, and everything in between. Did we say country? yes we did.
7.Is there a story behind the band’s name ?
Flore is foreign and assumed a water cooler was called a Water Machine in every language. She was wrong. We already knew it had to be office themed, so voila!
8.What would you say is your greatest strength as a Band?
FUN. We all like a laugh, don’t take our writing too seriously, and believe that joy on stage is the key to any kind of success. or at least we make our own fun.
9.What would you say is your greatest weakness as a Band?
Our greatest weakness is that we love too hard.
10. What music artists would you say have influenced your work?
Within our local scene, definitely bands like The Pastels, Jesus and The Mary Chain, Lung Leg, Belle and Sebastian and further out we have The Beastie Boys, Pavement, La Tigre, Real Estate and many others.
11.Who would you most like to collaborate with artistically?
Any and all of the bands still active in the previous answer!
12. Song on repeat right now?
Meatloaf – Bat out of Hell
Waiting for a Star To Fall – Boy Meets Girl
Gila Monster – King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard
Circles – Dag Nasty
13.Biggest obstacle & how did you overcome it?
Our biggest obstacle? Legally, we can’t disclose that, but we overcame it with a special cream.
14.What is your creative process when making music?
We all write together, everyone writes their own instruments and we just work it out. We are very decisive and it comes quickly! We don’t overthink it. Flore and Hando handle the lyrics.
15.This year, what can we expect?
More ‘once-in-a-lifetime world events’. But from us, our debut album, God Park, which comes out on 20th June on FatCat Records. We have some festivals such as Kelburn Garden Party. We will be touring the UK in the months following our release and talks about coming to Europe are also in the mix!
