This year greets us with Alas de Liona’s first single of 2025 ‘The Alchemist’s Son’ which was released on February 20th 2025. Alas de Liona is an indie pop singer from Mojave Desert, California. Despite her Californian roots, she now resides in Edinburgh, Scotland where she discovered her profound talent for gifted writing. In 2021, whilst still in Scotland, she embarked on her musical journey and released her Radio Astronomy EP with eye-catching celestial visuals. Since then, Alas de Liona has been gaining recognition for her creative music and has now reached 20.5K Spotify listeners per month.

Coming from her ‘Gravity of Gold’ album, ‘The Alchemist’s Son’ is an embodiment of indie pop music along with the soft drums, ballad piano and ethereal angelic vocals. Other singles from this album which are slightly older include ‘Vine Song’ and ‘Violet’, both songs combined have over 100,000K views on Spotify. Despite her newly released single falling straight into the genre of Indie pop, it doesn’t sound like your typical indie-style music, ‘The Alchemist’s Son’ has a gentle touch to it which sparks its genuineness.

The music video is quite captivating with its dusky scenery in the Scottish Ferniehirst castle making it similar to that of an enchanted forest atmosphere. Alas de Liona has shared that the single is open to individual interpretation, however, it has a personal meaning to her stating ‘’To me this one asks about striving for something and the sacrifices one might have to make to pursue it’’.
