ASBO ARCHIVE: VIVIENNE WESTWOOD: BUFFALO A/W 1982.83
With London Fashion Week, just around the corner, ASBO looks back on the great and the good, that have made LFW a hot bed of young creative talent.
Vivienne Westwood’s 19982/83 AW collection ‘Buffalo’ put London on the fashion map, took her to Paris, the first British designer since Mary Quant, to be asked to show in the fashion capital.
Buffalo girls wore hip-slung dirndl skirts over padded petticoats, with baby-sling-bags across their backs and hoodies topped with Buffalo hats, or T-shirt Grecian toga dresses with conical vintage satin bras worn over the top.
This was pre-Gaultier and, for the first time, underwear became outerwear.
